چکیده

The thermodynamic activities of ion pairs were measured el~ctrometrically in a series of aqueous mixtures of monoionic bentonite and the corresponding chlorides. Ion exchange membranes and Ag-AgC1 electrodes were used. The lyotropie order for the various cation species varied somewhat for two different preparations. The apparent relative escaping tendencies of the various cations did not correspond to that usually assumed on the basis of related phenomena: ion exchange selectivity, electromigration velocities, floceulation values or rates, etc.

Adsorption of organic surfactants to clay minerals has an effect on the electrical double layer interactions and on the Van der Waals interactions [1-3]. They alter the electro kinetic properties (mobility and zeta potential) and filtration behavior

The present work aims to investigate the effect of sulphanilamide (SA) adsorption on the zeta potential and water loss of raw local bentonite (B) and Na-bentonite (Na-B) suspensions. This was accomplished by separating the fine particles of raw bentonite of size (< 1μm), then activating them by Na+ ions. Adsorption isotherms of SA on B and Na-B were obtained at different SA concentrations rangi...

ZnO/bentonite Nanocomposites Prepared with Solid-state Ion Exchange as Photocatalysts

Photocatalyst nanocomposites of ZnO/bentonite clay are synthesized by Solid-state ion exchange method. Ion exchange intercalation process of clays is used to incorporate the catalyst into the basal space of the layered structure of clays. The purpose of this study is to find a new method, which is focused on simplifying and saving time to prepare ZnO-bentonite composite with photocatalyst prope...

Identification of Tetramethylammonium Ion in Methylated Nh4-bentonite

-Treating NH4-bentonite with diazomethane results in methylation of adsorbed ammonium with the formation of the tetramethylammonium ion. This ion, which can be completely removed through ion exchange, is distinguished in the IR spectrum by a strong band at 1480 cm -1 due to CH3 group bending vibrations. X-ray diffractograms, CEC, and surface area of the clay are not modified by treatment with d...

Viscosity and Sedimentation In

Suspensions of clays in organic liquids change considerably in theological character from liquid to liquid or when additions of a second liquid are made; thus, for example when about 15 per cent. volume of ethyl alcohol was added to a dispersion of a sample of bentonite in water the specific viscosity and thixotropy (as measured 9 by rate of the sol-->gel transition) increased to a maximum in s...

Physicochemical characterization and evaluation of suspending properties of arabinoxylan from Ispaghula (Plantago ovata) husk.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of arabinoxylan as potential suspending agent, an effective alternative to commercially used excipients for the preparation of pharmaceutical suspensions. Alkali extraction was done to separate arabinoxylan from ispaghula (Plantago ovata) seed husk by alkali extraction its physicochemical characterization was done and the suspending properties of...
